... run for your life, this forum has been taken over.
Invaders display the following characterisics and are rather easy to spot in a crowd:
Frequent use of swear words in a weak attempt to disguise acneiform eruptions
Elliptic sentences, so elliptic in fact they would make Ceasar proud - if they made any sense
Total complete lack of any kind of decent humour. They don't get a joke, ever.
That's why TVE is this year's funny guy instead of Kev (since Hank's gone,:tombstone )
Multi-class servers are nothing but an advertisement strategy!
You only ever race with the people within your class (unless some try lawn mowing with faster cars) - but most people select a nearly full server if available.
So if you have an optimistic 20 people on the server equally spread between 5 classes, you will struggle to find close fights...
What about 2 rotating sets of classes (ex: 2 classes road like XFG/XRG + TBO, 2 classes GT like NGT or GT2 + GTR) , like CTRA tried for some time if I remember correctly?
It seems that we are discussing quality racing on a populated server here, and I do not see how spreading the userbase between 5 classes on 1 server will provide that.
Thanks EQWorry for bringing that idea up, and team leaders for all the positive answers. It makes me feel there is still some life in LFS
Cars and tracks are 1-time purchases.
Once you paid, you can use them (provided your subsciption is running, your internet on and your license at the correct level if you intend to race the cars) - even if you stop subscribing for a while your purchases are still there when you take the plunge again.
You get discounts for emptying your wallet (6 items) and purchasing all the content there is to purchase (on new items).
You can also get credits to purchase cars and tracks, without paying: participation in series, referals, promo codes / renewal bonuses.
Note quite the polite answer.
This modification of the vob files is forbidden by the devs, so you can not get support for them here.
I may add that some of them can contain not so nice bits of software - beware, do not download without double checking.
It is also forbidden to post links that refer to illegal mods, it would be good for you to edit your post and remove the link. It may save others some difficulties
Good luck.
Edit: best way to fix it (after cleaning your computer) is to download a fresh LFS and clean install again.
Have you checked your mouse config? - for example the logitech setup thingy includes options like cancel mouse acceleration in games and set a different mouse sensitivity for games.
LFS quick fix:
1) remove sales from equation. Do not advertise (hype?). Ever.
2) remove market from equation. Use 1 + Ignore userbase. Forever.
Only joking. In fact I admire the way this piece of software is developped, and envy it. I have no guts nor skill to do the same (theoretically speaking, as I would not know where to start a drving sim development)!
My point of view: LFS original userbase is now gone or quiet, with a few healthy exceptions. The current userbase is not so easily impressed, not as patient (used to getting everything at once?), and has a comparison basis (competition).
Communication from the devs was fine for a close knit and small community, but did not evolve with the userbase. The software is and will remain a gem, but sadly it is not sufficient anymore.
I would say LFS' success is also its problem pushing the devs to become what they fled from. Oh irony! Can they resist, retain their integrity and independance - knowing it will attract whiners and affect online numbers?
I'll be around to watch. I hope you will be there as well, so that we can enjoy a few races - LFS is like a race, it's not reaching the finish line I'm interested in but racing.
There is no way in game to do what you want.
I've tried different workarounds during my mousing years, none convincing.
1 solution: combined axis for throttle / brake. It means you will use the same axis for both, 1/2 each - this may be useable depending on your controller.
The best way to enjoy it is a wheel, preferably with clutch... second hand, ebay...
Throttle on a button can be managed, provided you play with the "button control rate" setting - this will dampen the digital inputs (it adds a ramp artificially).
Thanks Scawen for bringing that up!
I had never tried S1 (stumbled on LFS at early S2 stages I think).
It is nice to see how the game has evolved, altough S1 was already excellent on the driving side
Losing the fun factor and ease of access (5 minutes top, most of which are dedicated to installing and clamping the wheel - then jump in wherever I feel like without schedule and plans, and meet the racers I want to compete with).
Moving into an owner controlled environment, rather than the userbase control we have around here - does iracing really tell you what you can run, when, where?
Wasting money. I'm not a dedicated simracer, I only set the thing up when the opportunity and mood come together.
I've been reluctant to try it...what if I find out it's miles ahead of LFS as driving goes but still fails at the above described annoyances ? No time for both in my sim racing "career"!
Welcome!
You may find that the demo part of LFS is maybe too "casual", coming from iracing...
S2 servers tend to do better. Live admined demo servers can be good, so be patient and have a look around. The diversity of LFS is nearly unlimited (I'm not talking about content ) as wished by the devs, so nearly each server is unique.
Thanks for the advertisement!
We could do with a few more racers from time to time (clean and patient damn that insim is set to ages between short races...).
Don't worry if you feel slow, you may find slower yet!
There are also faster guys up front, too far away for me to see though...
Seeing the requests in the "what new car for LFS" threads and such, a RL car that is within range of average (european meaning) drivers is wanted.
However it will be a major test for LFS, as it will be the first time that this simulator can be compared to RL. Scawen also pushed it further by trying to replicate (and offer the possibility to lock) RL car setup.
If the devs can do it well, it will probably not change much for us LFS users but it will be an incredible achievement for them and a potential advertisement to attract new users.
However it will also allow a direct comparison with other sims on the market, so the pressure on the devs team is probably quite high before this release I can understand that they do not want to rush it... can you?
In cars where you can not adjust brake balance "on the fly", engine braking can be used to shift the balance (according to the location of the driven wheels ).
Example: you setup your XRG/FBM brake balance so that your rear does not lockup when braking for T1, using no or very little engine braking (downhill braking).
Now if you reach the end of the back straight you have a brake balance that is slightly off, biased towards the front (you are now braking on a more or less flat surface). You can then apply engine braking (downshifts) to use the extra grip available at the back of the car.
Back to T1 braking, if you downshift early while braking heavily you will lockup your rears with the same setup.
XFG on Blackwood: 1:35-1:37 consistently should be enough for you to find competition & close racing. Above 1:40 you would be at the back, and since it is a demo combo you may face unexpected & unpredictable fellows on track.
Low 1:35 and racecraft (or better laptimes with no racecraft ) for the win.
LX6 on blackwood: You will have trouble finding races online, but if you do consistent 1:25-1:28 you will find good fights. Try South City in the LX4/6, always a blast even offline.
Online racing will tech you more and faster, and if you ask nicely you will receive tips and setups. You may also be punted off track and yelled at for it, so don't worry and change server...
Moneybookers will request you to transfer money from you bank account into your moneybookers account.
This will take roughly 3-8 days according to the country / bank.
You will transfer money in your local currency (€) but will have to pay £ to Scavier. Do not forget to calculate the following when you transfer money (€) into your moneybookers account:
- Exchange rate € to £ (varies daily, give some allowance)
- Exchange fee! (1.5% on top I think)
When your account is credited then you can proceed with your purchase.
I got LFS the same way and encoutered no problem at all.
H shifter + clutch will certainly slow you down a little bit, but you will enjoy the races better. Your choice then!
You can also look for specific servers that only allow clutch + shifter, they do exist - in case you want to compare.
Hardcore (clutch + shifter, amd the car proper rotation ° - i.e. 720° for road cars) IS slower, but not so much that you can not compete.
Race_S setups are not horrible for learning the tracks, but clearly not good enough to be competitive.
Try to tweak them or use one of the 2 databases for setups around (look for team inferno or setupgrid)
